Just took the dogs out again..'tis strange to think it is November
already...the leaves are bright yellow on the elm tree and the maple..but
the sumac are still green..still heavy with leaves...it is usually like this
mid October..by now they have fallen and the branches stand bare against the night skies..but not this year.

The air is still, a light breeze from the north doesn't reach the back
steps.  Watched a few yellow leaves sail by the fence on down the street
..through the grape vines arching over the walkway...have a jungle back
there.  The vines wrap the telephone and electric lines two thirds of the
way down the side of the house..over thirty feet long from root to
tip...framing both the side window and the gate...the side lights from the
apartment across the street shine through this archway and highlight the
yellow leaves against the night darkness...

love the night...

can hear much more clearly things the daily bustling hides..stirrings of the
cats next door and the distant bark of a dog suddenly aware of a passing
female...a woofy greeting through the evening quiet...taken up in turn by
others as she runs...can tell where she is by the chained dogs' cries...a
poignant lonely sound.....hopeful of freedom passing in the night...hopeful
of greeting this passerby.....
