BUMPER STICKER

Poem by

Nokwisa

a bumper sticker
for my car
she asked
old 62
AIM she said
and I could see that hand

but it was her hand
you know
they took both
and I can't tell her
my daughter
how much that symbol
represents
and she wants
a bumper sticker

yeah, let them know
another young woman
who refuses to eat
the pride of her Nations
but wears it
a proud armor
that won't ever protect

but in her
are birthed the Nations
the future lies
as she raises
that slender hand
in protection of her freedom
and all she wanted
was a bumper sticker
