It is extrememely difficult to explain discrimination
in terms that one who has never experienced it can *feel* ...
Many of those supporting the use of Indian names as logos or as sports mascots have never experienced the reality which is a day to day struggle for many, to just feel good about the people they are simply because they were born to a race that does not set the *beauty* standard, the standard for *norm* that comes across our television screens and is displayed on the covers of magazines...and are taught a distorted history in public shcools. These same people claim to be honoring the "Indian" by pretending to be something they are not. This farce honors no one. Some districts and newspapers realizing the detrimental effects this subtle racism has upon the students faced with these logos have taken action and eradicated the mascots from their schools. We applaud these actions! JOIN
