Ecology Laboratory (SREL), founded in 1951, is located at the Savannah
River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina. The work performed is significant
to DOE as it provides a further understanding of the environmental effects of
SRS operations and also of energy.
Press Release
Secretary of Energy Hazel R. O'Leary will launch operations at
the Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) Tuesday, March 12, at the
Savannah River Site (SRS), Aiken, South Carolina. Earlier this week O'Leary
authorized movement of radioactive waste to the DWPF, the final step leading
to the startup of radioactive operations at the facility.
