(The following comes from the Wendake Quebec Longhouse..Ish)Khwe,
We are happy that the cemetery is finally protected for ever. I always feel that they will not be disturbed, because of the spirit of the Conley sisters. Now we have to look for others cemeteries in Ohio, Michigan, and in Canada. Every year they (archaeologist) exhumed Wyandot cemeteries.
There is one cemetery in Ohio, not the one situated at the Wyandot mission, but the one in an field somewhere around the mission church. This cemetery is the resting place of Tarhi (famous chief) and his people. One of these days they will find the resting place of Tarhi, and this is bothering us. We have to find this place before them or be in contact with archaelogists who are working with native sites in this area in order to protect our sacred sites. In Canada , we are in contact with archaeologists, but it is not moving fast enough in the good direction. In the next month we will post information on the Wendat cemeteries in Ontario.
Again, we are happy for the judgement, but it will be better if Bearskin (and others) would have stopped by themselves this venture business (casino over the Wyandot cemetery). It is too bad that our own leaders can not understand the sacred side of Wyandot cemetery and land bases.
We are aware that the Wyandotte of Oklahoma won a case in Court for some lands in Ohio few years ago. The Wyandotte politicians accepted moneys instead of land (of course government has offered just money compensation to the tribe) , what we need for our future generation it is land , not money. Today there is no money left and we still have no land base for our future generations.
