I found it important to inform you that the link that is posted in your page referring to Wendake is erroneous. It is not the official Wendat website and there is no official website for the moment. Take also notice that M. Gros-Louis (Former Band Council Max Gros-Louis) received a court order to remove the page from the WWW last month. I have discussed with the new band counsel about an official Huron-Wendat website but I was told that it was not a priority for the moment since more urgent problems were before them. As to M. Gros-Louis, he is not Honourary Grand Chief since he gave himself the title just before being defeated in elections held in September. Also note that M. Gros-Louis left Wendake in disgrace since he was about to sell his nation to the highest bidder without the populations input or consent. Several families ( my own included ) had to get a court order ( at great expense ) to stop his counsel from signing an agreement that would have diminished our rights to a level where we would no longer be considered Wendats by both federal and provincial governements. The newly elected counsel immediately start a process for a referendum to be held so that the people could decide if negociations where to continue. The referendum was held November 30 and 88% of the members of the Huron-Wendat nation said NO to further negociations. Once again I can see that the b******t has begun again! It's amazing that people who PREACH often do not take the time to READ or LISTEN! Once again I will try to CLARIFY the issue!

I must start by saying that you are doing Ishgooda a disservice by sending her your letter. All that she has done was to provide a link to the website in question. I have found that Ishgooda is forthright and honest in her attemps to create dialogue between First Nation's Peoples and others. NEVER has Ishgooda been one to try and create animosity or bad feelings between ANYONE...be they First Nations or NOT! I commend her for her continuing work! I do believe that you should TAKE NOTE of this and apologize accordingly!

You are pointing your finger in the wrong direction, so let's get something straight right off the bat..........Your comments should be directed to ME!

NEVER has the page in question (http://www.multigrafix.com/aorhenche/huron.html) been presented by me or anyone (Ish included) for that matter as the OFFICIAL HURON WEBSITE. If you had linked to this site from http://apocalypse.berkshire.net/~mll/plaint.htm you OBVIOUSLY had NOT READ the tag saying that it was and I quote: "A site in Wendake, Quebec Wendake, Quebec" I would be careful in your inferences as well. There exists an OFFICIAL HURON WEBSITE at: http://history.cc.ukans.edu/kansas/wn/wn_main.html This is THE OFFICIAL WYANDOT NATION of KANSAS site!

THIRD!

Max Gros-Louis HAS NOT received ANY court order (as of today's date) regarding the removal of this page from the Web! Also, searching through court documents at the Palais de Justice this afternoon, I am unable find a court order even REMOTELY mentioning ANY WEBSITE for that matter! Are you suggesting now, that the Province of Quebec can regulate CONTENT on the 'Net? GET REAL!

FOURTH !

As far as Mr. Gros-Louis being elected the Honourary Grand Chief....this was a HONOURARY TITLE given to him by the exiting Band Council at the end of August. He DID NOT arbitrarily assign himself that position! It was presented to him by a UNANIMOUS vote of the the Band Council (a Band Council which, by the way, had NEVER BEEN IN TOTAL AGREEMENT ON ANYTHING....EVER!!!!) in recognition for his THIRTY YEARS of SERVICE to his community. As a matter of FACT, the vote was taken without his knowledge and WHILE he was OUT OF TOWN!!! Mr. Gros-Louis also, I might add, holds various HONORARY DEGREES,TITLES,etc., given to him from various Governments, Universities and organisations from around the WORLD for his work!! I admit his HONORARY TITLE was recinded by the current Band Council in a PETTY move to try and embarass the exiting Band Council!

FIFTH!

Mr. Gros-Louis WAS NOT DEFEATED in the last election because he DIDN'T EVEN PRESENT HIMSELF as a candidate! He had made the decision to RETIRE long before the Elections of this year!

SIXTH!

Mr. Gros-Louis DID NOT LEAVE WENDAKE in DISGRACE! As a matter of FACT..he still lives in the SAME HOUSE in Wendake where he HAS BEEN LIVING for over 25 years!

SEVENTH!

Mr. Gros-Louis WAS NOT trying to "SELLOUT" his Nation! I assume that you are referring to the "QUARANTE ARPENTS" situation. To set the record straight.... Years ago the Goverment of Canada offered a LAND CLAIM settlement of a parcel of land located close to Wendake. The Wendats declined the offer! No prob..their right! The area in question covered approximately TEN ACRES (40 arpents...1 arpent=0.25 acres approx.) Recently, the Government tried AGAIN to settle this BUT LOWERED the offer to around around 13 MILLION DOLLARS for these ten acres. NOT A BAD DEAL by ANY standards for TEN ACRES of basically BUSH! The Wendats again declined the offer! I have no opinion on this other than it was their RIGHT! After many years in politics it was realised that in order to SECURE the FUTURE for ALL the WENDATS, the Local Government MUST become AUTONOMOUS and he continually pursued the BEST deal possible with the powers that be! A struggle that ALL First Nations Leaders face!

EIGHTH ! Your reference to the Referendum that was held in Wendake in November is ERRONEOUS and MISLEADING! The FACT of the matter is that the current Band Council misinformed the Wendats of the SCOPE of the Referendum. The current Band Council wants to ELIMINATE ALL FUNDING from the Federal Government of Canada in return for AUTONOMY! Their GRAND MASTER PLAN to REPLACE the funding received is to build a CASINO! They feel that a CASINO is THE answer to all their money problems and they aren't really concerned if the Casino is even in Wendake!! How's that for a SELLOUT! What about their responsibility to their people? Fortunately, the Band Council's ATTEMPT to SLIDE one by on the Wendats was OVERWHELMINGLY DEFEATED !!

I STRONGLY suggest that you STOP circulating LIES in a FEEBLE attempt to GAIN some sort of CIVIL ADVANTAGE for your cause, whatever it may be. Thank God there are just a FEW of you MALCONTENTS in Wendake that OPPOSE EVERYTHING that they don't particularily agree with. Why don't you step back a bit and have a look at the BIG PICTURE! You fail to realize that it is up to ALL First Nations to UNITE in their struggle to gain some sort of AUTONOMY! Self-Government IS possible BUT not in the forseeable future. There are TOO MANY hurdles and roadblocks set up by ALL National Governments. You do the STRUGGLE no good by opposing the very people that are wholeheartedly trying to build a more SECURE FUTURE for their NATIONS.

As far as an official WENDAT WEBSITE goes....one is under construction right NOW!

In closing, I hope that you have been enlightened by the TRUTH and STRONGLY SUGGEST that you begin a DIALOGUE of CO-OPERATION and UNDERSTANDING with those of us who are trying in our own little way to help secure a better future for ALL Wendats in Wendake. Your numbers are dwindling. Don't you CARE about the FUTURE of your Wendat Brothers and Sisters? Your PETTY JEALOUSY is pretty much standard fare here in Wendake. A LOT more can be ACCOMPLISHED by CO-OPERATION!
